RETREAT ONE:
As an endodontist, I most frequently encounter root canal retreatment cases. In these cases, safely removing gutta-percha from the root canal system is one of the most challenging tasks. I have tried many different file systems for root canal retreatment procedures, and I continue to do so. In challenging cases, chemical solutions for dissolving gutta-percha have also been helpful.
However, the Retreat One system – and I want to emphasize this – offers the possibility of doing the work of many sequential file systems with a single file, without the need for any gutta-percha remover. Thanks to this system, we can easily penetrate the gutta-percha and reach the apex, even in angled canals. Furthermore, I believe that the system's gold alloy technology and file length shorter than 25 mm provide sufficient rigidity during gutta-percha removal in the root canal system while also demonstrating a flexibility similar to blue alloy technology.
I observed that operating the root canal system at different RPM values in the coronal, mid-, and apical regions allowed for easier and faster removal of gutta-percha. This made the postoperative period more comfortable for patients. Furthermore, the Retreat One package includes a 3D file. This file allows us to effectively remove fragmented gutta-percha and paste remnants, which are difficult to remove from the root canal system, without significantly altering the canal anatomy. We can use this file dry at 800 RPM and 1 Ncm torque, or when the root canal system is wet. In other words, we can also activate irrigation solutions with the 3D file.
ADVANCED KIT:
During root canal treatment, we can encounter complex root canal systems. Effective preparation is particularly difficult in canals with a sharp curvature angle or sudden curvature. This complexity can lead us to use different file systems depending on the case. However, the Advanced Kit has temporarily ended my search in this regard.
The kit contains 4 different files. In many cases, I was able to easily reach the apex using only the 10/.07 and 17/.05 files. As expected, these minimal preparations were mostly performed in the MesioBuccal 2 and Midmesial canals. However, if there was slope and calcification in the main canals to be prepared, I was able to clearly reach the apex and complete the preparation successfully with the 25/.04 file.
Besides the three files used here, I also preferred the 10/.04 file in cases where I had difficulty reaching the apex with the 17/.05 file, and there were cases where I was able to reach the apex using this file. Although not very common... However, while I had difficulty reaching the apex with the 10/.04 file, I was able to reach the apex more safely with the 08/.03 Glider Pro file.
All files in the Advanced Kit are as recommended by the manufacturer. I definitely recommend using it at the specified RPM and torque values.
